Klint Griffin Wins Tunica Main Event For $127,307

The Tunica Main Event has come to an end with Klint Griffin winning his first ring and the $127,307 grand prize. He began the day as the fourth largest stack but became the chip leader pretty quickly in the day and was able to control the table to his victory. The Franklin,TN native did not have any official POKER results prior to this victory but he is not new to the game “I played cash GAMES for a living 20 years ago but I walked away, didn’t play any tournaments again at all until last fall and then did three circuit mains, made day two in each but made mistakes and this time I just thought about all the mistakes I made and try not tomake those again.” Did he make any mistakes though? “I literally made one mistake and it was the hand I won!” he laughed in reference to the final hand where he came from behind to win the hand.  POKER may become a larger part of his life going forward but for now he plans to keep doing what he is doing for the most part. “I own two businesses. I have a wife and child. I mean, I’ll play some more circuit events and maybe dabble going out in June (to the WSOP ). But no big plans, just keep doing what I do and find time to get away and play.” Final table results: 1. Klint Griffin – Franklin,TN – $127,307 2. Lucian Camargo Silveira – Porto Alegra,Brazil – $78,678 3. Billy Dickerson – Covington,LA -$55,792 4. Trace Henderson – Gulfport,MS – $40,272 5. Phuong Nguyen- Southhaven,MS – $29,600 6. Drew Dunaway – Bessemer,AL – $22,160 7. Daniel Kusnerak – Newton,NC – $16,904 8. Thomas Tackett – York,SC – $13,144 9. Eric Sutton – Decherd,TN – $10,421 Final day action The final day began with just six players and started with a bang as short stack Phuong Nguyen found a one-outer on the river to stay alive. That one-outer ended up meaning a ladder up for him as Drew Dunaway became the first player to go in 6th place for his biggest POKER cash on his 30th birthday. Nguyen would then bow out in 5th place as his luck ran out when what looked like a likely chop ended with his elimination to end his “sticky” short stack run. Trace Henderson was going for a back-to-back of sorts as he won the Tunica main event a year ago in the April stop. It looked like he just might do it as he took the chip lead at four-handed play but then had a poor run of hands to quickly go to the short stack and finish in 4th. Three-handed play started with the three players pretty close to even. Until there was a critical hand where Billy Dickerson four-bet jammed 47 big blinds to force Klint Griffin to have a deep think with pocket fives which ended up being the correct call as Dickerson had pocket fours. He explained his thought process afterwards. “I counted out my chips to see where I would be if I lost. Lucian had about 2 million and I would still have 4,6 if I lost and be in second place and able to battle back. I also did a little talking. I said to Billy, “I have a made hand” and I noticed Billy got tense and started looking down. So I put him on a small pair or.a weak ace and I’m glad he had a small pair cause there was an ace on the flop!” That hand eliminated Dickerson and gave Griffin an 80/20 chip lead heading into heads up play which Griffin would finish off after about an hour, never allowing Camargo to get any real momentum going.
